Recipe Creation Step 1: General Details
Is Component: Check this box if you're creating a component recipe (sub-recipe). A component recipe includes its own prep instructions and ingredients, but is also used within one or multiple other recipes. Note: all components are automatically placed in the "All Components" category by default.
Active: Keep this toggled on if the recipe is currently in use by your team. If you turn it off, the recipe will move into the Inactive category, functioning like an archive.
Recipe Name: You’ve got this one! Just keep in mind that recipe names must be unique.
Recipe Category: Add the recipe to any of your existing categories, or create a new one. A recipe can belong to multiple categories. By default, recipes will be listed as "Uncategorized" unless you specify a category.
Yield: This is the yield associated with the recipe. You can add multiple yields to a recipe, but there can only be one volume yield and one weight yield. Custom units you create are exempt from this limitation.
Cost of Recipe & Price on Menu: Based on the values you input here, opsi will calculate a basic food cost percentage and profit. This process is referred to as center-plate costing. If you enable "True costing," the recipe cost will be determined based on the total cost of each ingredient.
Allergies: This is a tag-based field. Search for and select existing allergies, or add new ones to associate directly with the recipe. However, we recommend tagging allergies at the ingredient level, as they will automatically roll up to the recipe when those ingredients are used.
Additional Recipe Fields: The additional recipe fields include Shelf Life, Lead Time; and great for front of house include Menu Wording, Marking, Delivery Verbiage, and Beverage Pairing.
Recipe Creation Step 2: Ingredients and Prep Details
Ingredients & Components: Enter all ingredients and components for the recipe. Each should include a Name, Prep Method (if applicable), Amount, Unit of Measurement, and Notes (if applicable).
If you're adding existing ingredients or components, start typing the name, and it will appear in the dropdown—just click/tap to attach it to the recipe.
If you need to create a new component recipe or ingredient while working on your recipe, simply type the name and select "Add new ingredient" or "Add new component recipe." Once you've entered the details and clicked Save, the newly created item will be added to the recipe.
You can also add headers to organize ingredients into different sections, such as steps or specific callouts.
Prep Instructions: Add a new step for each prep action. You can also associate an image or video with each step. Additionally, you can insert headers between steps if needed to break them into sections.
True Costing: This toggle enables true costing and will only appear for customers subscribed to plans that include the food costing feature.
Bulk Add: This feature allows you to copy ingredients from an existing recipe document and paste them into our bulk add field, where opsi will quickly parse and organize them for you.
Recipe Creation Step 3: Media Details
Videos & Images: This final step is to attach media (images or videos) as cover photos. This is the media that will appear at the top of your recipe just under the name.
